Dear Parents and Students,

We continue to explore Utah environments this week. It was fun to dissect our class "pet" cactus to discover its keeping "cool" adaptations in the desert. These adaptations include: big roots to soak up the water, small pores to release the water, needles to breathe easier, and a waxy surface to keep the water in. I hope your "scientists" described our experiment adventures. This week we will explore more plant and animal adaptations. Some of our students may even "try on" some adaptations themselves. Beware scientist volunteers!

Our curriculum goals for the week include:
Reading: story elements- setting, characters, plot
Spelling: Long/short e & accented a syllables
Writing: Writing process
Math: Place Value Patterns
Science: Utah Environments
Social Studies: Utah Regions

Due to the new 4th grade class, our rotation schedule has changed slightly. Computers will now be on Wednesday and library will be on Monday. To help students remember to return their library books on time, students will be asked to bring their books on Friday. Thank you to all of your for your support with sending classroom supplies, volunteering, and supporting your students. It is a joy to work with your students!

Ready to Explore,
Mrs. Yates
